My Favourite Christmas Movies List... December 5th Pick

Snowcapped Christmas

Snowcapped Christmas is a newer movie that has quickly worked its way onto my list of favourites and seriously... how could it possibly not?? An injured championship figure skater is sent to rehab in the mountains but in the midst of healing her body she also manages to find that living means so much more than just competing on the ice. Winter in the forested mountains, bundled up evenings spent sitting by a fire under star-filled skies, and the chance for relationships she had never even realized she was missing..... so sappily, unbelievably perfect!

I really didn’t expect to like this movie even half as much as I ended up loving it; it just sounded too much ‘The Cutting Edge’ so I was more than pleasantly surprised when I gave it a chance and realized it wasn’t even in the vicinity. My love of great sports movies comes from my love of sports, I think, so when I see a character that I can actually relate to, it just always sucks me in a little further. I’ve never figure skated but I’ve been injured and surgically repaired throughout my lifetime of being active in competitive sports like basketball, skiing, hockey, roller derby... and being on the injured list always just sucks SO hard!! I totally understood the frustration of having to take the time to fully heal and finding needed lessons within the healing, but the setting, the adventure, the comfort was a pretty special ‘cherry on top’. Sometimes the thought of just getting away to a new kind of perfect seems so beautifully inviting and getting swept away into sweetness, even just for the short while a campy, predictable movie can offer, is a pretty sweet gift in itself.

If you’ve seen Snowcapped Christmas and loved it... YAY! If you’ve seen it and not loved it, that’s okay, too... I will continue to be happy loving it to bits for you! And if you’ not yet seen it and it happens to be on television at some point when you are able to sit and watch... I hope you will give it a chance to become one of your favourites, too!
