A Flintstones Christmas Carol
A lot of people will probably want to berate me for admitting that I have never been a fan of Scrooge. I once sat through the old favourite of many with my aunt who said it was the best Christmas movie EVER and it was pure and boring torture for me. I know, I know... it’s a classic, it’s beloved, it’s filled with meaning in its creepy darkness. Still, I just don’t get the appeal. So for most of my life I have actively avoided any movie, television show or play based on the old story of bore...
...until I saw A Flintstones Christmas Carol! Maybe it’s just because I love the Flintstones in their campy, fantastical, prehistoric shenanigans that made me pluck the DVD from the store shelf and actually want to watch it. No one was more surprised than I was that I actually really enjoyed this version of the old classic I dislike so much. It could be the colours or the activeness or even just the characters I have always loved so much that managed to keep me interested. Or it could be that it was short, sweet and straight to the point... just like I need things to be. It’s kind of a neat take on the old story with the Bedrock gang putting on a play to tell the tale of Scrooge but still mixing in their ‘real’ lives it feels neither creepy nor boring. And as Fred buries himself so deeply into his role of Scrooge, it turns out both have lessons to learn...
If you’ve seen A Flintstones Christmas Carol and loved it... YAY! If you’ve seen it and not loved it, that’s okay, too... I will continue to be happy loving it to bits for you! And if you’ not yet seen it and it happens to be on television at some point when you are able to sit and watch... I hope you will give it a chance to become one of your favourites, too!
